Length: 3.6 miles
Duration: Around 1 hour 30 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Kilpatrick Forestry is a lovely dog walk and is a lot quieter than some of the other popular forestry walks on Arran. Driving south from Blackwaterfoot the road climbs up the hill as you head out of Kilpatrick. The forestry road is on the left with a green forestry commission sign.
Once you come out the car park, follow the track up the hill. You get a fantastic view down over Blackwaterfoot bay as you come out of the trees. It is a good forestry track so is easy underfoot and once you’ve done the gentle climb out of the car park the path levels a little and makes it an easy climb.
Our dogs love the ditches so they spent most of their walk off the path in the water! When the path forks, we took the left hand track that continues round the hillside above Shiskine Valley and then heads back into the trees.
We followed the track to its end and then turned back on ourselves. It is approximately 3.6 miles and took us 1hr and 30 minutes, but we did stop for a cup of coffee and enjoyed the views of the valley, so you could do it quicker than this.
Terrain
Easy forestry track with an uphill section to get out of the carpark but not too steep.
Wildlife
We saw a few buzzards on our walk so be sure to keep your eyes peeled. There was also signs of deer on the track so please bear this in mind.
